LG Intel Smartphone at CES 2012 – LG is apparently planning an Android smartphone based on Intel hardware. According to the report of the U.S. chip giant, the device as early as next week will officially present at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. There will be an Android phone by LG based on Intel’s new Medfield platform. Technical data of the device are not known yet.

LG Intel Smartphone New Platform

Another LG manager said, compared to the Korea Times that he doubted that LG will use the Intel platform for Android smartphones. One could perhaps make the reference of the devices, if Intel is advertising heavily subsidized. “Intel Phone” could be the earliest in March, will be on sale.

Intel wants to get involved in the business of chips for cell phones and smartphones. So far, however, nothing much happens. After the cancellation of the LG GW990 in 2010, LG and Intel might have a smartphone manufactured by the Korean equipped with the fourth generation of Atom processors in the U.S. at the CES in Las Vegas.

LG Intel Smartphone – The LG GW990

The GW990 based on the then current Moorestown processor from Intel, one designed for mobile phones offshoot of the Atom platform. The operating system was also developed by the Intel Moblin Linux variant. The GW990 was supposed to appear in the second half of 2010. The device was then no longer mentioned as early as the spring of 2010.

Intel’s new platform, “Medfield” is produced in 32-nanometer process and will be significantly less power than its predecessor, “Moorestown”. In addition, for the first time a graphics chip is integrated. LG would be the first smartphone manufacturer that uses the Medfield platform. Further information is expected there will be at CES 2012, held on January 9. Will this LG Intel Smartphone be enough there to compete with ARM and Samsung, Qualcomm and Texas Instruments that are licensed and dominate this market?

Intel Sandy Bridge-E Back On January 2012 – In announcing the quarterly results found in big companies always a “Conference Call” instead of referring to the position of the corporations to the numbers and answer questions from analysts. Also at Intel, this was the case last night, during which they revealed some things, Sandy Bridge-E.

This is discussed included the upcoming products, “Ivy Bridge” and “Sandy Bridge-E” was read by those too often in recent times and should not be free of problems.

As the first CEO Paul Otellini was one of the new 22-nm processor of Sandy Bridge-E, the currently high costs of retrofitting the factories, but also on course for mass production by the end of stay. This will ensure in the Ivy Bridge generation processor for a significantly lower power consumption and higher performance. Depending on how close the mass production, however, moves to the end of the year, finished the CPUs according to three months later, its only really available. Last unofficial roadmaps spoke so from March/April 2012, which coincide with the official statements from Intel, manufacturing is expected.

In the Q & A session also responded to a question regarding the platform around the “Sandy Bridge-E” based on the LGA socket 2011th Also in this series has been on schedule, according to Intel’s chief changed, one is still on track for this year. This is called the planned mass production later this year, but without specifying the quarter. Whether the first three desktop models are thus still be available later this year, is not ultimately made the statements.

Details on all products will be present at the Intel Developer Forum (IDF) in the fall. The date of this event put Intel Sandy Bridge-E on the previous day on the 13th to 15 September schedule.

Sandy Bridge-E to be branded Core i7-3000 Series – We’ve previously talked about Intel’s issue for the Sandy Bridge E gathered from the VR-zone, and now processors for PCs and workstations belonging to the Sandy Bridge-family and will be identified as Core i7-3000. So Intel would not have chosen a numbering later (Core i8), but a different suffix than the current solutions for the desktop Core i7-2000. The similarities end there, however, since the CPU Sandy Bridge, tt can be installed in dual-processor systems, use a different socket (LGA 2011) and are mated to a different chipset (Intel x79 Express).

The Core i7-3000 processor will be the top of the range Core i7 -3960X Extreme Edition 6 cores (12 threads with HyperThreading), clock frequency of 3.3 GHz (3.9 GHz with Turbo Boost), 15 MB L3 cache, and as the name suggests, the multiplier will be unlocked. The expected price is $ 999.

The Core i7-3000 will be lower than the Core i7-3930, more than 6 cores and 12 threads, but with a frequency of 3.2 GHz (3.8 GHz with Turbo Boost) and 12 MB of L3 cache. Finally, the cheaper it will be the Core i7-3820 than Core i7-3000, a quad core processor with support for HyperThreading and frequency of 3.6 GHz (3.9 GHz with Turbo Boost). Core i7-3000 cost should be similar to the Core i7-2600K, but in this case the multiplier is locked and must be coupled to a motherboard with x79 chipset certainly more expensive. For all the CPU, the TDP will be 130 watts.

If this nomenclature will be confirmed, there may be a bit of confusion, given that even the 22-nanometer processors Ivy Bridge will probably be identified as Core i7-3000, we’ll see.
