LG Intel Smartphone at CES 2012 – LG is apparently planning an Android smartphone based on Intel hardware. According to the report of the U.S. chip giant, the device as early as next week will officially present at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. There will be an Android phone by LG based on Intel’s new Medfield platform. Technical data of the device are not known yet.

Another LG manager said, compared to the Korea Times that he doubted that LG will use the Intel platform for Android smartphones. One could perhaps make the reference of the devices, if Intel is advertising heavily subsidized. “Intel Phone” could be the earliest in March, will be on sale.

Intel wants to get involved in the business of chips for cell phones and smartphones. So far, however, nothing much happens. The operating system was also developed by the Intel Moblin Linux variant. The GW990 was supposed to appear in the second half of 2010. The device was then no longer mentioned as early as the spring of 2010.

Intel’s new platform, “Medfield” is produced in 32-nanometer process and will be significantly less power than its predecessor, “Moorestown”. In addition, for the first time a graphics chip is integrated. LG would be the first smartphone manufacturer that uses the Medfield platform. Further information is expected there will be at CES 2012, held on January 9. Will this LG Intel Smartphone be enough there to compete with ARM and Samsung, Qualcomm and Texas Instruments that are licensed and dominate this market?

Sandy Bridge-E to be branded Core i7-3000 Series – We’ve previously talked about Intel’s issue for the Sandy Bridge E gathered from the VR-zone, and now processors for PCs and workstations belonging to the Sandy Bridge-family and will be identified as Core i7-3000. So Intel would not have chosen a numbering later (Core i8), but a different suffix than the current solutions for the desktop Core i7-2000. The similarities end there, however, since the CPU Sandy Bridge, tt can be installed in dual-processor systems, use a different socket (LGA 2011) and are mated to a different chipset (Intel x79 Express).

The Core i7-3000 processor will be the top of the range Core i7 -3960X Extreme Edition 6 cores (12 threads with HyperThreading), clock frequency of 3.3 GHz (3.9 GHz with Turbo Boost), 15 MB L3 cache, and as the name suggests, the multiplier will be unlocked. The expected price is $ 999.
